If you have accepted the assignment to pray for the worship service, you will need to be prepared spiritually.

Are You Ready to Pray?

  • Are all your sins confessed? “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from God: your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear you.” Isaiah 59:1-2
  • Are all relationships with others made right? “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15
  • Are you seeking His will in all things? “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15
  • Are you seeking to glorify God above all things? “And I will do whatever you ask in my name; so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:13-14
  • Are you depending on the Holy Spirit’s Guidance? “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:26-27
  • Are you trusting God in spite of what seems to be? “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Will you praise God no matter what? “Be joyful always; pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

WHERE TWO OR MORE ARE GATHERED

  • Arrive early – to respect your prayer partners. Bring you Bible and have a church bulletin from the worship service. Prior to the start of the meeting, personally pray over the above Are You Ready to Pray to prepare your heart.
  • Pray in agreement – follow the guidelines, but be willing to be led by the Holy Spirit to set them aside so that God will be honored and glorified. Seek to pray short prayers so all people have time to pray. For people who do not like to pray out loud, that is okaythey can pray in silent agreement. Pray in one accord and like mindedness for one topic. When everyone has prayed for that topic then, move to the next one. Follow the pattern until all topics are prayed through. “If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done by them by my Father In heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.” Matthew 18:19-20

HOW TO PRAY THROUGH THE WORSHIP SERVICE

  • People arriving to the service – Pray their hearts will be open to receive whatever God wishes to place on their hearts today. Pray that they will release distracting thoughts and focus on Jesus. Pray burdens and sadness will be overcome by joy. Pray everyone who does not know Christ will meet Him face to face and be convicted by sin, and confess Jesus is Lord this very day.
  • Praise and Worship – Pray they will experience God in the Praises and focus on Him alone. Pray they will be concerned only with glorifying the Lord. Pray for humble hearts and joyful hearts. Pray that they will truly understand God as they sing the words of the songs. Pray for Scott, the praise team, musicians.
  • Communion – Pray that people will experience Jesus’ death, Burial and resurrection in a fresh new way. Pray they will take the time to pray for repentance and confession and freely receive God’s promise of forgiveness.
  • The Sermon – Pray Pastor Rick will be filled with the power and boldness of the Spirit and that the Lord’s message through Pastor Rick will speak to hearts. Pray each one will hear the message that God has for him or her. Ask God to bring change into the life of every individual. Praise God He promises His word will not return void.
  • The Invitation – PRAY FERVENTLY Pray for conviction will fall on those who need to respond so that Jesus Christ might do a mighty work in their lives. Pray the Holy Spirit will stir their spirits and soften their hearts to receive the gift of eternal life. Pray for those who need to make a decision to join the church will do so, and those who need to rededicate their lives to the Lord will make that commitment.
  • The Offering – Pray hearts would be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to give generously. May they be committed to give weekly above and beyond to help others in need. Ask God to fill then with joy as they give as an act of worship and to honor God.
